Synopsis
Yellow is an experimental video art narrative that follows the travels a Korean Canadian woman who visits The Gambia.
Themes of racialization, nationality and world events are explored.
Purpose
Yellow is the third installment of the Primary Colours series which also includes experimental narratives Red and Blue.
All three films are experimental animations that reveal various reflections and perceptions of identity through my own storytelling.
Themes of racialization, memories, land and belonging are brought up in each work.
Yellow specifically uses rotoscope animation, photographs and videos to explore my identity as a queer second-generation Korean Canadian woman.
The film follows my journey in The Gambia, a small country in West Africa, through my experiences of being racialized, feelings of otherness and hearing about the terrorist attack in New Zealand.
Yellow reveals various reflections and perceptions of identity through my own storytelling.
