Synopsis
This animation is dedicated to the women who have lived through the modern history of Korea.
Purpose
[Miss Park Project #1] began as a way of questioning the irony of the antagonism and hatred that arose during the 2016 candlelight vigils which forced former president Park Geun-hye to resign from office. At the time, ‘Miss Park’ became a scornful nickname for the then-president. In response, I wanted to use the technique of animation to bring the countless Miss Parks through history into the present day without turning them into a monolithic symbol. Created through long-hours of hand-made work – tearing, cutting, and removing layers – this animation offers sympathy, partly in memory of my own mother ‘Miss Park’ who was a daughter, sister, wife, and mother, and also for the countless women who lived through the twists and turns of modern Korean history.
