Synopsis
This animation is based on the poem [The Night of Singing Stars] written by IM Hwa to mourn the death of LEE Sangchun. LEE was IM’s contemporary and a member of the Korean Federation of Proletarian Art who died at the young age of 28. He was an actor and artist who joined the movement for Korean independence at a young age, but he ended his own life under the repressive Japanese regime. Perhaps the reality of his story is reflected in the deaths of workers in the present day.
Purpose
LEE Sang Choon reflected a different aspect of his era than the nationalist movement, being more interested in the labor movement of his times. The issues that concerned him have not changed greatly since then and are still relevant in the present day. This animation offers a modern reinterpretation of IM Hwa’s poem [The Night of Singing Stars] which mourns the death of LEE Sang Choon.
