Synopsis
An ant and a spore cross paths with each other among countless beings, and embark on a journey together. As the spore gradually takes over the ant, the ant becomes captivated by its constantly changing appearance, exposing itself to numerous dangers. The spore yearns to be fully acknowledged by the ant and dreams of stepping into the outer world to meet the ant directly. The spore blooms into a cordyceps. It finally confronts the ant, but the ant, now lifeless, is unable to see the spore.
Purpose
This work reimagines the uncanny nature of cordyceps, which parasitize insects to produce mushrooms, through the lens of love. The spore, quietly settling within the ant without the ant’s awareness and growing larger, seems like love itself. This also feels like the spore’s unrequited love, longing for the ant’s recognition. What moments might the ant and the spore have shared?
