Synopsis
A poetic exploration of self-doubt and perseverance, Do You Know Where the Birds Live blends reality with imagination as the author reflects on her journey. Birds symbolize humans, the sky represents ambition, and a hill becomes a metaphor for the author's current stage in life. As she descends, she questions her worth, feeling lost in uncertainty. But staying in that sorrowful place isn’t an option—she must climb again. Along the way, she realizes that reaching the sky may not be necessary to soar; even without it, she can still find her own way to fly.
Purpose
This film is probably the purest thing I’ve ever made. Even though I’ve created several films and worked on many productions, I often find myself doubting my abilities. After coming to Korea for my studies, I placed a lot of pressure on myself. Despite constantly creating, I felt like I wasn’t really moving toward my goal.
Under that pressure, I decided to make this film as a way to express my feelings of living abroad—feeling isolated, misunderstood, and emotionally distant from my family.
I’m grateful I had the chance to bring together a series of short animations, each made with different techniques, and shape them into a poetic mix that conveys my inner state. I hope that through this film, others might recognize a piece of themselves—and find some strength in it, too."
