Synopsis
Summer of 2008, Nari (7yrs) and Yuri (17yrs) live alone in a small mountain village. Yuri takes good care of Nari, but she does strange things when she returns from school. She washes her school uniform only when Nari is away, wears long sleeves even in the summer, and drinks red homemade liquor every day, pretending it is ‘fox blood.’ Nari is curious about Yuri's behavior, but is just proud of her mature sister. One day, Nari gets thirsty and drinks ‘fox blood’ while Yuri is away. Right after that, a call comes from the cell phone that Yuri left behind, and Nari falls into great confusion as soon as she gets the call.
Purpose
By borrowing folktale-like elements to explain real-life social issues, I want to talk more carefully about topics that we all know but don’t want to face. Observing Yuri through the eyes of a young child, Nari, emphasizes that we cannot easily fathom the vast world of the victim's inner side. I want to add that even if the world is sometimes cruel to children, there are always warm adults around who are willing to help.
