Synopsis
In a room covered with floral wallpaper, a robot worker comes to life. He stands in front of the mirror and sees a butterfly which granted him consciousness. All the other robot workers are awakened in the same way, so they are grateful to their butterflies and do their best for them. Soon, the manager arrives and the robot worker begins to work hard. Unlike the robot, the butterfly is not interested in working. It simply wants to fly in the blue sky and find the perfect flower. But the robot cannot see unless the butterfly flaps its wings, so the robot sighs when the butterfly stares at the window and does not fly. The manager who sees this decides that the butterfly needs special education.
Purpose
Everyone has a dream. Dreams give people the strength and energy they need in their daily lives and help them overcome their pain and troubles. But the time may come when the reality of life forces us to choose between keeping our dreams and giving up. Something outside ourselves often affects this choice, and it may be a powerful force. It might be a capitalistic society that only pursues material value. The manager is a symbol of capitalism, whereas the colorful butterfly represents an ideal or true value. The colorless robot represents our real lives which have been adapted to the establishment. The ironic harmony between the butterfly and the robot is a portrait of ourselves since we are always conflicted between the ideal and the real. I produced Bleach in order to think about what is truly valuable in our precious lives and the relationship between society and people.
