Synopsis
In an indecipherable space with a rectangular window, men and women sit by a small table, and within that space is a monster. The man, who is the protagonist, tries to escape but inexplicably keeps coming back to the same place again and again. Each time the man returns, people disappear one after another until he is alone with the monster and is eaten. However, when he comes to, the monster is also gone. The man licks his lips, and nobody knows who ate whom.
Purpose
The character “Gu”口 in the Korean title not only means a mouth but it can also imply an exit. The mouth in “Gu” is a means of violence to prey on others rather than a tool used to speak and communicate. The incarnation of violence is expressed as a huge monster. The protagonist struggles to escape from the monster and the space of violence, but it is inexplicably returned to the same space. In the end, it seems that he is eaten by the monster… but next thing one knows, the monster too has disappeared into the protagonist’s mouth. Who ate whom? Who was the real monster? People often believe that they are victims of violence. Like an ambiguous nightmare, I wanted to vaguely imply that we may be the main agents of violence.
