Synopsis
This is the stage of the Rococo Quiz Show. The players are Marie Antoinette; Marx Demian; Rose, a ballerina; and a cat. Who is going to win the contest, and who will be hanged? It’s no use being nervous because it’s a nasty quiz show.
Purpose
In had several goals in mind for this animation: The characters should have the least amount of movement possible; The film should be extremely minimal in its budget, labor, quality, and production time; It should avoid perfectionism in directing, screen writing, design, and image making; It should not try to turn something fake into something authentic; And I wanted the crew to consider our work as play. So, I came up with the idea of a ‘quiz show’ without a conventional narrative and animation. I wanted to make a film that was at once vague, pleasant, pretty, crude, graceful, and strange. I want the film to be full of ‘camp,’ as described by Susan Sontag, but perhaps this thought itself will make the film not campy after all. Anyway, I like the film, and encouraging one’s tastes is encouraging oneself. I wanted this film to be filled with my personal taste, which I have not been able to express in my work on commercial animations. I would be very happy if the film gives at least a small pleasure to someone else.
